And now for something completely different...
Why would I do a 'real life' branding for alpha.tribe - a virtual fashion store?
Answer: Tutorial for my students on how to assemble a behance project page, complete with an issuu flipbook whereby they show their branding manual. Which I ended up really enjoying. Obviously alpha.tribe does not need letterheads and what have you.
But, it was so much fun doing them that I think that I will go ahead and add some more while I sit here thinking about my 'minimalist' conundrum.
While I was putting together images for the new ShapeShifter 2012 site I re-rezzed some of the stuff that was on that sim in order to photograph it (yes, don't ask - I was inexperienced and silly enough not to have made an OAR). And I remembered that I really liked what I had done back then.
I am not sure if this stuff was as popular with visitors as the more 'storyworld' type of stuff that I also do. I am fairly certain that when this stuff was rezzed at alpha.tribe there were not too many photos of it on Flickr, which is always a good indicator as to how much people like what you make.
Does that matter? Well yes, of course it does. I want others to come and enjoy my sims, tell their friends, come back to play some more.
But, I do want to make more minimal things. Because I really like them. Truth be told, I like them much better than the storyworlds. So, could there be a way to combine these two really different approaches?

I had to create a new tumblr site. Yes, had to, not wanted to. And floundering around in my hard drives for what to put in the damn thing I came across all these old charts and diagrams and powerpoint presentation slides that I had made, especially during the PhD years. And some of it surprised me. It ain't half bad... And then I also seem to have made some stuff along those lines for fun. So, that is what will now go into this new tumblr site that has been forced upon me.
What happened is this: I have had my tumblr sites under 2 different accounts - Alpha had one and Grapho had another. I have no idea why I did it like this back then, but it was hugely confusing. So, I decided to combine all the tumblrs under my own name, with a brand new account. Deleted the old ones - and yes, I lost the two main sites since those cannot be transferred but no big loss. They were pretty decrepit anyway.
The thing however is that when you create a new account you automatically get a new tumblr which is the "main" tumblr, the one that is attached to your account. Everything else you can transfer, appoint admins to (which is how you transfer them actually), delete - whatever. But the main squeeze stays.
Which ended up being OK - made me discover some long forgotten stuff...
Oh and - here is the link: https://ayiter.tumblr.com/
The alpha.tribe sim keeps niggling at me. It is making me face my shortcomings. But something that I did today helped. Well, helped a bit.
One of the things I probably need to let go of in order to move on is my love of desaturated sky presets. Tried one out that isn't all about grey and beige, and really liked what happened.
This doesn't absolve me from tackling the real problem - which is that as a builder I am no longer up to the demands that the evolved SL platform offers me. But it does feel good (at least temporarily) to not be as dissatisfied as I was while I wander around the new lit island.
